# Emergency locksmith Guardamar, for the door that shut with you outside

Keys inside, keys lost, a key in two pieces: ring and say where you are. The phone is answered at three in the morning as it is at three in the afternoon, and you are given an honest idea of how long the drive will take for your address at that hour.

## Outside your own door? Do these four things

1. **Get somewhere safe and lit**

A neighbour’s porch, a bar that is still open, your car. At night by the beach, do not wait in the dark at the door.
2. **Ring, and say the street and the area**

The town, the beach, El Raso, Moncayo, Los Estaños: say the area as well as the street; it saves a wrong turn.
3. **Send a pin and a photo on WhatsApp**

A location pin and a picture of the door and the lock. It shows which door and which lock before anyone sets off.
4. **Have something that shows you live there**

An ID with the address, a rental contract, a booking, a neighbour who knows you. It is asked for before any door is opened.

## How people end up locked out in Guardamar

- **The keys stayed inside.** A door that pulls shut on its latch, a gust through a terrace on the beach front, keys on the hall table.
- **The keys went missing on the sand.** With eleven kilometres of beach, from El Rebollo to Les Ortigues, a bag put down for a swim is easy to lose.
- **The key broke in the lock.** Cylinders near the beach collect fine sand, the key has to be forced, and one day it snaps.
- **The lock will not turn after months shut.** In a town where only about a quarter of homes are lived in all year (INE Census 2021), plenty of locks go a whole winter unused.
- **The keypad has gone dark.** Electronic locks and key safes run their batteries down in an empty flat.
- **The communal street door will not open.** In the blocks behind the Centro and La Roqueta beaches the street door has its own lock, and it fails too.

Locked out of the car rather than the house? That has [its own page](https://locksmithguardamardelsegura.es/car-lockout-guardamar/). If somebody has forced the door, it is a different job: [repairs after a break-in](https://locksmithguardamardelsegura.es/burglary-repair-guardamar/).

## Night, weekends and the second half of July

The line is answered twenty-four hours a day, every day of the year, and an opening can be done at any hour. Being reachable at night is not the same as being at your door in ten minutes, and nobody here will tell you it is: you get an estimate for your address at that moment, and you decide.

The busiest stretch of the year is the summer, and above all the second half of July, when the Moros y Cristianos of Sant Jaume fill the town. A pin on WhatsApp saves time when the streets are full.

The price is agreed at the door before anything is touched. If the cylinder has to be replaced to get you in, you hear that first, and you can choose [a planned lock change](https://locksmithguardamardelsegura.es/lock-change-guardamar/) another day instead of on the spot if that suits you better.

## Saying where you are, when everything looks alike

Rows of bungalows in El Raso, identical blocks along the beach, an urbanization whose name is written one way on the sign and another on the map. Give the area, the street and the number, then drop a pin. The guide on [describing a house in El Raso](https://locksmithguardamardelsegura.es/blog/directions-to-a-house-in-el-raso/) has the details, and [the coverage page](https://locksmithguardamardelsegura.es/guardamar-and-around/) lists every area with the names people use for it.

If you are ringing for a house that is usually empty, read about [second homes](https://locksmithguardamardelsegura.es/second-home-locksmith-guardamar/) once you are back in: most of these calls can be avoided with a little planning. The guide on [what a winter does to a lock](https://locksmithguardamardelsegura.es/blog/three-homes-in-four-stand-empty/) explains why. All the ways to reach us are on [the contact page](https://locksmithguardamardelsegura.es/contact/), and the methods are explained on [the door opening page](https://locksmithguardamardelsegura.es/door-opening-guardamar/).

## Asked while standing outside a locked door

### My keys are somewhere on the beach. Is it worth looking before I ring?

Retrace your steps once, and ask at the beach bar or the lifeguard post if there is one nearby. After that, ring: searching sand in the dark rarely works, and the door can be opened while someone else keeps looking.

### The key snapped and half of it is still in the cylinder. Should I pull it out?

Not with pliers or tweezers. Gripping it usually pushes it further in or bends it, and a clean extraction becomes a new cylinder. Leave it as it is and say on the phone that part of the key is still inside.

### Does getting back in mean breaking the lock?

Usually not. Most doors are opened through the latch or the cylinder without damage. If the only way in is drilling, you are told beforehand and nothing is drilled until you agree.

### I am a guest in a holiday flat and the owner lives in another country. Can it still be opened?

Yes, once the right to be there is clear: the booking, a message from the owner or the agency, or the owner confirming by phone. Have the owner’s number to hand; it speeds things up.
