The parts of Guardamar, and how to name them

The town
Rebuilt after the earthquake of 1829 on a plan of straight, perpendicular streets running north to south, with low houses and deep patios. The street door opens straight onto the pavement, with the patio behind the house.

Guardamar Playa and the port
Blocks of flats facing the sand and the 2.6 km of the Centro beach, and the marina at the river mouth. Communal street doors, lifts and terrace sliding doors that take the sea air head on.

El Raso and the Campo
Bungalows, townhouses and low blocks round communal pools, away from the beach and the town. The INE counts the whole Campo as one nucleus, the largest outside the town.

El Moncayo
Shares its name with the 1.46 km Moncayo beach. Estate agents often list it as "El Moncayo – El Pòrtic"; the INE writes it Urbanització El Montcaio. Any of the three finds it.

Los Estaños
Els Estanys is the Valencian name, and the one the INE uses. Say both if you are not sure which is on the sign at the entrance.

Lomas del Polo and Pinomar
Counted by the INE as a single nucleus under the double name. Give the name of your street as well as the urbanization: two names for one place is how directions go wrong.

Los Secanos
Flats with communal pools and houses with gardens. A street gate usually stands between the road and the front door, so say which of the two will not open.

The INE counts Guardamar del Segura’s population by nucleus. These are its estimates for 1 January 2025, and they show how far the town spreads beyond its centre: more than four thousand people live outside it.

- Rojales. Up the river, Ciudad Quesada included.
- La Mata (Torrevieja). Across the lagoon to the south.
Further out than that, ring and ask: the answer is given honestly, with the drive it would mean.

Four things that get the right door found
- The area as well as the street: the town, the beach, El Raso, El Moncayo, Los Estaños, Pinomar.
- The name of the block, residential or bungalow group, if it has one on the gate.
- A location pin on WhatsApp, sent from where you are standing.
- A landmark if you have one: a pool, a shop, the beach access you use.
